I come every week for the fish tacos. The staff is all very polite and I love to be able to bring the kids here.

Lovey love love. Food is FRESH, staff is friendly and attentive. So attentive one of the time i spilt my water they cleaned in up in less that five minutes. Get the machaca taco & the baja taco. FAB. Juicy, succulent food that will leave you satisfied. Oh and they have a constant fresh salsa bar out. Lime shortage? What lime shortage? They have plenty! Enjoy your food here people, it is not sub-par.

Food is decent. We ordered for catering for an event that was 10 minutes from their location. We gave them directions and an address, the driver called and was unsure of where to go while he was actually in the parking lot of the venue. He must have gotten confused as it took an additional 30 minutes for him to figure out where to go. Not really his fault but I have to question the management that sends out a driver who can't use a gps or read a map of the area. I will not use them for events in the future since they were supposed to deliver at 6:00 pm and were over 30 minutes late. The food is 3.5 stars but the service is zero

Excellent Mexican fast food style food but healthier and prepared Fresh. The meats are marinated and grilled, there are plenty of options to choose from like tacos, burritos, bowls and salads. Service is friendly and fast, all orders are served with a generous portion of freshly made chips and they have a salsa bar consisting of a variety of salsas ranging from mild to spicy, tomatillo, to other topping like cilantro, limes, and pickled veggies, and the best part is that everything tastes extremely fresh, you won't find any microwaved, canned or defrosted stuff here. I love the Grilled Chicken salad served with avocado, corn and a lime dressing. This location is kept clean and and the salsa bar is always fresh and full.

The food here is made fresh daily. Like from scratch, everything. So you know it's the freshest zone around. I usually get the charbroiled chicken burrito because it has the exact ingredients I love in a burrito and nothing else. The salsa is all free and chips come with each order. The salsa varies from Hot habanero medium verde and a mild red salsa as well as a pico. I used to go to the original in Oakland Park with my friend years ago and I was pleased to know they opened two more nearer to my house on Federal. It's healthy fresh Mexican done right. It can't be beat.

This is good Mexican fast food that tastes fresh and is pretty healthy. They have tacos, burritos, quesadillas and salads. The meats are marinated and grilled. Service is friendly and fast, all orders are served with a side of chips and they have a good salsa bar that is kept clean (which is hard to find sometimes). Their habanero sauce is really good and spicy. They have a tomatillo that is really good. Wasn't too crazy about their pico de gallo. I got a chicken burrito - comes with sour cream and guacamole. Really tasty. To me a step above Moe's, Lime, and Tijuana Flats.

Por Fin!! I LOVE the food here. I'm a native Texan & it's not easy to find a place w/ a multitude of fresh salsas & healthy Tex-Mex options. Great salads, great burritos, FISH TACOS, and an array of other delectables. The only downfalls are they have Pepsi products (yuck) & the service is still "trying." BUT, I will still be eating here every week, without a doubt!!

QUE RICAAAA! I'm trying to write a review that does not include the word "fresh". Failed. YES, the food at the FRESH ZONE is literally FRESH. LOLZ. The fresh salsa bar is a highlight. I keep ordering a grilled veggie burrito even though I love fish tacos. It just ain't easy to find a decent vegetarian burrito with a selection of fresh pico de gallo and salsas (not just hot sauce or some lame BS salsa). The only thing I would change is the consistency of the guacamole: too creamy/blended. I would like to return to this place ASAP. I ate it for lunch today.

Your typical Mexican fast casual restaurant with an above average salsa bar. Got 2 tacos, shrimp and fish. The shells are cheap corn (yuck) but the fish inside with cabbage was good. The shrimp was just ehh. It was overpowered by the corn shells. Not worth $3. Girlfriend got the veggie quesadilla. It was your standard quesadilla just so so. Overall, disappointing.

Love this Mexican place! I should of came here instead of Tokyo Blue! lol! Free chips and salsa! What more can you ask for? The chicken quesadilla is great and the burritos are very big and delicious! The staff is very friendly and the place is usually very clean!

This is my absolute favorite go to restaurant. They are always fresh and super fast. Everything is tasty! I love everything on the menu. I also think everything on the menu is affordable.

Really enjoyed this place! We even happened to go on Cinco de Mayo which made eating Mexican food a little more special :) My husband and I each got 2 Baja fish tacos with a 4oz cup of guacamole to split (it was plenty). We were pleasantly surprised when the cashier handed us a basket of chips (they were so good) to go with the fresh salsa bar. Then each of our fish baskets came with more chips which was awesome!! The tacos were amazing, the guacamole was soooooo good and the fresh salsa bar was awesome! It's a little similar to chipotle but a little more authentic and they cook your order but it's very fast. I'd suggest it to anyone who loves or just even kind of likes Mexican food!

Zona Fresca just opened in downtown Miami right across the street from Bayside. I just had my first experience. Very friendly staff, great food, and a large salsa bar. A sign inside says they're even going to start serving beer. I live close so I will definitely be a frequent visitor.

I LOVE the salsa bar here I have yet to find a place even close to as good as Zona. I've been going to the Ft. Lauderdale location for years but this one is just as good and now I don't have to drive as far to get my burrito fix!

Second time in the area for a car repair nearby. Stopped in at 11:30am for lunch and the Pinto Peans served to me, along the Taco Plate were Ice Cold. If they can't get basic beans down, they are aren't going to make it.

I've passed this place many a time on my way to or from Fort Lauderdale and promised that I would try it someday. Unfortunately, it is usually closed when I visit my favorite late-night Bar, Chit Chats, which happens to be located across the street and less than a mile North of Atlantic Blvd on Federal Hightway. I happened to be in the area today at an earlier hour and had not yet eaten, so this was the perfect opportunity. When I walked in, I was amazed at how many tables they had with a good selection of booths, high tops and regular seats so that they could accommodate parties of all sizes. Lucky for me, I found a private booth with an outlet to plug in my laptop. Unfortunately, there was no Wi-Fi for me to upload this review immediately so it had to wait an hour or two. The menu above the cash was easy to read. There was even a little blackboard showing five of their most popular selections - a great idea for places that have an abundance of selections like this one. When I saw that I could get two fish tacos with rice and beans for under six bucks, my decision was easy and I was thrilled with the price! Offering me free chips while I waited for my order to be cooked was a nice touch too. While waiting for my number to be called, I wandered over to the salsa bar. They had an excellent number of choices and I tried at least four - all were appetizing and had just the right amount of spiciness. My number was called just as I could finished sampling the Salsa bar. The two tacos and two sides looked great, so I took a picture just to show it off to my friends on Facebook. Next, I dug into the fish tacos and noticed that each one had two tortilla's holding the contents. I really prefer one flour tortilla but I understood why they needed to use two - it fell apart quite easily and I ended up eating it with a fork instead. The beautiful plate quickly turned messy but extremely tasty. I liked the option of pinto over black beans and the rice had just the right texture - almost like a brown rice but moist. The fish cooled down rather quickly - not sure why but it was definitely crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with lots of toppings and just the right amount of sauce. Before you know it, it was 9pm on a Sunday night and they were closing up shop but not kicking me out. If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to extend the hours. Overall, this visit was a good experience and a great bang for the buck. My friends have already given me suggestions for future visits so I'll be back for sure!

Maybe he recognized me from Yelp, or maybe he's just a customer service pro ... super friendly service tonight (thank you!) and I just had to write an update!! I ordered their traditional charbroiled chicken burrito with a mix of pinto and black beans, rice, and pico to-go. This burrito was loaded up and wrapped tight. The salsa bar featured pickled peppers/carrots/onions, and a variety of salsas and fresh lime wedges. So fresh and so clean. They even throw in a complimentary bag of tortilla chips. When you're craving that south of the boarder flavor, the Zona satisfies. Yum!

Zona Fresca is definitely worth trying. The ceviche was a wonderful, fresh treat. It reminded me of ceviche I've had at very nice restaurants and resorts in the yucatan area of Mexico. Eating it brought back fond memories! The chili relleno was scrumptious and nicely cheesy and the sour cream, black beans, chicken, rice, and guacamole made for a delightful burrito. The food was an awesome dinner but was light and refreshing so it would have made a perfect lunch too. The salsas were some of the best I've tried at fast casual Mexican places. I only wish they had queso, and that the guac was chunkier and not so over-blended. It's as if it's been run through a food processor for too long. Still, its flavor was great. I'll definitely be back to try more menu items like those with shrimp and fish!

  • Puddytat C.

Had the Baka fish taco plate. The beans tasted like they are straight out of a can, barely warm and had an odd taste. First time I ever disliked black beans. The fish tacos were Luke warm as well, not fresh made as expected. They tasted alright but would have been better piping hot. The rice was very bland and not flavored or anything like Mexican rice. Just plain rice. The salsa bar gets 5 stars. That area had a wide variety which helped the tacos but couldn't save the rice or beans. Even when I piled it on. Forget ordering with rice or beans.

On the way to the Beach and Yelped a good food place nearby .. Zona Fresca showed up. I've been to the one in Ft-Lauderdale and Miami , I was pleased so it seemed like a perfect choice. My fiance and I went up to the counter and I ordered the Chopped Nopales chopped salad of grilled nopales cactus, lots of avocado, cucumbers, onions, and mixed greens tossed in a oregano vinaigrette ($5.95) chicken or steak, add $2.30. It was delicious and vinegary. Cali-wrap charbroiled chicken or steak, melted jack and cheddar cheese, diced Haas avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro and lettuce, tossed in lemony dressing ($7.75). He ordered the Steak and very small pieces, not much steak, maybe you get more with chicken? Overall the order was ready really fast and the food was healthy and tasty, perfect before heading to the beach.

We came here for lunch. I had the shrimp tacos and fish tacos. Both were delicious. Not too salty, not a lot of sauce, just the right combination of everything. The flavors were spot on. We've been going to the one in plantation for a while and have yet to be disappointed. The facility is definitely clean so no complaints there.

My family and I wandered into this place and we were pleasantly surprised. Being Gfree, I eat at a lot of Mexican places, it seems. On a mission trip to Baja several years ago, I fell in love with open faced corn tortilla tacos. Zona has great ones! The guacamole was also Very good, and the salsa bar too. I wish we had one of these where I'm from, up in Orlando. Because Zona is way better than Moes, Chipotle, Lime, and the like. Once again, when I give five stars on my reviews, it's not because this restaurant necessarily rates with the top restaurants I've been to. I'm not going to compare a fast food join to say, Robuchon in Vegas, which is a TRUE five star dining experience. But FOR WHAT IT IS, this place deserves five stars. In its category, this restaurant is exemplary.

  • Mark L.

I gotta say the food here really did taste fresh. Really fresh. Food reminds me of Lime but so so much better. Great menu with great prices. And they have flan and Mexican wedding cookies for dessert that aren't advertised on the menu so make sure to ask. The flan was pretty good. I had the siesta maker and a steak taco. Both were really very good. I would def recommend this place if you pass by one, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

There is nothing authentic about this Mexican fast food. If you want the McDonald's of Mexican this place is for you.

  • Sarah P.

This is simple, fast, and very fresh. They have a small but thorough menu. Very good home made margaritas! The guacamole is amazing here and so is the salsa at the salsa bar! I love the charbroiled chicken burrito (your choice of black or pinto beans on it) and my boyfriend loves the cali wrap. They also have fresh fish tacos, burritos and salads (all are great) or beef or pork. This is a very casual place with no table service but you never wait long for your food and there is always a booth or table to sit at. I come here about once a week and have never had a bad meal here!

  • Moe M.

Food was awesome, service is great, chicken cali wrap was very good, sauces were mouth watering.

I love this place. I've yet to order something here that wasn't excellent. Very friendly service too; they handle my girl's barrage of special requests with a smile and grace. They keep it very clean in there too, always a good sign of a clean kitchen. The menu is Americanized a bit, which I prefer. If you're looking for 100% authentic Mexican this probably isn't for you. Zona Fresca is kinda like the illegitimate child of Chipotle and Panera, except the food is a lot better. I like that you order off a menu and an actual cook makes your food in a kitchen. Chipotle feels like a cafeteria or subway does Mexican to me. The salsa bar is a great touch. I wish they had one with a medium heat though, two are completely mild and the habanero one will melt your face off. They also have a good selection of Mexican beers and a big bottle of Chalupa on every table.

Better than last time. Fish tacos are so much better hot! Tasty. Prices have edged up since our last time here but it is still very reasonable.

Zona Fresca is a very good option for Mexican food. I usually go to Chipotle, but Zona Fresca feels a little more like "classic" Mexican food. I tried the Pollo Ranchero and it's very very good!

I have never had a bad meal at this place. I usually get the charbroiled chicken burrito done enchilada style, what can I say fantastic and huge portions. Always end up taking half home for diner. Today I tried the taco combo with one fish and one shrimp taco and pinto beans and rice. Again big serving size and no complaints from me. I actually preferred the fish taco. It is always very clean and comfortable here. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. When they first opened they occasionally mixed up the hot and mild salsa but it hasn't happened in quite a while now. I go here often so I'll be checking in soon.

I had high expectations for this place but I was ultimately disappointed. This was my first time here, I drive past it all the time. I checked out the web site and I liked all the talk about the "fresh ingredients" so my decision was an easy one (I was debating going to Tijuana Flats). The restaurant was pretty empty and so I breezed right through the ordering process. Service at the counter was very friendly. I ordered the "Cali-wrap" with steak and headed over to the salsa bar. The salsa bar looked good but unfortunately, it seems like every thing there was sitting for too long. First I had a bite of the avocado salsa with one of my tortilla chips and it was a bit sour. Next, I tried my wrap and the other ingredients were tasty but the steak was very dry, again, as if it had been sitting for a long time. Since I was on my way to a movie, I didn't even bother to finish the wrap mainly because it was just too hard to chew. The prices were fair and the restaurant was clean and neat. I'll come back here to try something with chicken but that will be a long time from now. I'll be at Tijuana Flats the next time I need quick tex-mex.

  • Courtney W.

I don't know if this place is as good as Chipotle, it's not the same concept though so I don't know why people keep making that comparison. I had a chicken burrito with black beans which also came with pico, guacamole, and rice I believe. It was fresh but there was something missing. I'm not sure if they season their meat but I couldn't really tell. The chips they included with my takeout order were bland and minimally salted and didn't come with anything. I was confused what I was supposed to do with them, maybe if they included salsa with them. The staff was friendly and maybe after trying a few more things I would give a better review. The prices are on par with other places serving similar fare. I believe this is a chain but I haven't seen or been to any other locations.

    (3)
  • Jane S.

Same great food we have come to expect from Zona Fresca. Just as good as their other locations we have been to. I tried the tostada salad this time, and just put salsa on it, not their dressing - I will definitely get it again!

    (5)
  • Nick A.

On par with all of the Chipolte's and Moe's of the world. If you're in the area, hungry, don't feel like spending a lot, craving counterfeit Mexican food and don't want to shit like a duck within an hour of eating (taco bell) then here or any of the above choices will do. Unlimited salsa, lime, and peppers at the bar & free chips are a bonus of this place, so is the site of seeing you're chicken breast freshly grilled and chopped. Very spacious modern interior and it feels weird because it's too nice for such a depressing shopping center and for slightly above average food. The prices are fair but to get full you're going to need to order a few things. If you're in the mood for rice/chicken/beans type of food then you should be at La Granja/La Brasa but here is not a bad option.

  • Paula P.

I always enjoy the food here. Everything is fresh and tasty. I had the fish and shrimp tacos today. I liked the fish taco better than the shrimp taco. But the tortilla was not that great. I usually have the chicken burrito which is fantastic. I highly recommend this place.

this is by far the freshest, best Mexican in the area! beats Taco Bell, Moes (garbage) and any other Mexican restaurant. The burritos are great. the salsa's are freshly made, and the staff were very accommodating. it is always packed for lunch. i just love it! Cant wait to go to the new location in Coral Springs at the Walk in 4 months!! near my house, we drive to all 3 locs now from Coral Springs just to go there. the portions are over sized and worth the money....just great. keep it up!

I love this place. I started going to the one in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago and was thrilled when this one opened. I've eater here at least 20 times. THE FOOD: I love the fish taco's with fresh salsa and chips, the best value on the menu at under $3! Usually my teenagers are satisfied with just one, but depending on your appetite you may want two. Sometimes we order a burrito to split and share if we're extra hungry. Eating them without falling apart takes a little practice, but I have it down to an art and I eat always just pick it up with one wrap and leave the other on my plate. I have never had a better fish taco ANYWHERE even though other places charge up to 5 times more. We ordered 4 fish taco's last night over the phone about 7:30 pm as we exited i95 and Atlantic. Arriving about 5 minutes later, I quickly paid and it was another 5 minutes home. They were still plenty warm and we all raved about how consistently yummy they are. They use a fresh fish, fried, add shredded cabbage and veggies, top it with their special white sauce and salsa. Fresh and healthy. I never eat raw cabbage but it adds the perfect crunch and tastes good here! Burrito's are around $8. My daughter and I usually split if we order one because they're big, but guys will want a whole one for themselves. We like the steak burrito without the black beans. ( My kids won't eat them.) I'm not a fan of their guacamole but my daughter loves it. I can't put my finger on it- the texture is too smooth? ( not enough to fill them now that they're older, but with added chicken it's a meal. ) My kids like the cheese quesadilla with or without chicken. Zona staff offers more chips since my kids don't eat the rice or bean options. THE SERVICE: You walk in, order like at a fast food place and then get a ticket for your order. regulars head over to the fresh salsa bar to fill the little One time they made a mistake on takeout and I called in. Next time I went there they made it right. They offer takeout for parties too. THE AMBIANCE: Since it's new, it's very clean. It's family friendly. There are booths, high tops and other tables. You can bring in a crowd and put a bunch of tables together. It's open seating. PRICE: Visitors with families looking to take the family out on a budget will love this place.

This place gets better every time I eat here. I used to think chipotle was good. Now I'm spoiled. Quality of food is on a much higher level. Guacamole is fresh and delicious.

  • Leah G.

Went today and had the cardboard soft shell dried out chicken tacos. The salsa bar was still frozen from the frozen containers they must pour out of it. the complimentary chips were stale and cold. The only good thing was the cold beer to try to was it down. They should remove "Fresca" from their name and call it "Yucca" And I am being polite.

This has to be the best Mexican "fast" food I've ever had. Absolutely delicious!

Driving up Route 1, I bumped into this classy taco place that was pretty busy for a late Wednesday dinner rush. For $10, I was given a small drink, two chicken tacos with a massive serving of meat, sour cream, and their homemade Pico is so refreshing. You also get a choice of beans & rice. I will definitely swing this way again.

  • Sierra K.

I like this location. Its big and has a few secluded tables, which is important to me because I like privacy. They have the best salsa out of the various mexican chains. The staff is really nice. The veggie burritos are really delicious and nothing falls apart. To me, the only way you can really mess up mexican food is having too much liquid in it and making the tortillas break, but that isnt the case here.

  • Bill M.

Unlimited supply of salsa. Was extremely busy for a week day. I ordered taco salad with grilled chicken, came with a side of beans also which was very filling. Chips and salsa are also complimentary with your meal.

  • Leslie M.

Love this place! I order to-go once every week or two. They're totally cool customizing your order; grilled fish instead of fried, crunchy tortilla instead of soft, different type of beans; all no problem. The food is always fresh and delicious. The salsa verde is addictive!

  • Adam B.

Your typical Zona, but cleaner than the Pompano location. The only downside is the outside area, as there are a lot of smokers from next door that congregate out there. There's really nothing to say about Zona; outside of the salsas and guac, which are both really good, it's pretty standard Mexican. the machaca shredded pork is pretty good, but not amazing like Rocco's Tacos or labamba pork. I guess I feel like the food at Zona is pretty fresh and not greasy or overly salty, and that is why I keep going back. I'd say 3.5 stars. I'm not super enthusiastic, but it's clean and good enough. The girls that work in the front are nice.

I always take people from our of town here because it is a light and healthy taco place. My bridesmaids have asked to go back here multiple times during their visit because it is a real casual place that have great salsa and chips. I personally love their veggie burrito.

Yummy salsa. Chicken and steak tacos are generous, fresh and inexpensive. They usually have Negro Modelo, which goes very well with the food. Nice quick service place.

I always come here to grab a salad for me and my crew. Everything is tasty and everyone is smiling. They have this salsa bar where you can pick roasted peppers, hot mild or sweet salsa. Nice Place

Not sure how long it's been open, but it's fresh! Visiting from out of town, and the thought of freshly prepared mexican sounded great. Bright fresh colors, and a nice selection of fresly prepared foods. The Baja Ranchero was a good buy for the amount of food I received. The chips were cold, but the meal made up for that. Freshly grilled chicken breast with cilantro rice and black beans with a side of roasted poblano pepper stuffed lightly with cheddar cheese. Complemented with sour cream, fresh guac, and pico di gallo with a fresh salsa bar and 4 different sauces. I definitely would recommend this for a quick fresh place. Friendly wait staff as well! Price for the dinner was $7.95- not bad.

This placed just opened in pompano. It's good.Been there twice! Had the steak taco, chicken taco, and bean burrito.. There salas bar was clean and everything seemed fresh! the only thing is the flour and corn tortias are not made fresh on site :(!! But all in all the place is clean and the food is made fresh! I will go back again!

There has been a location in Ft Lauderdale for quite sometime, it is quite good, very happy they opened another location. Best mexican I have ever had. Best Chili Rellenos, and they are not breaded, but cooked on a bbq grill. All of the salsa is homemade and cooked on a grill. The food is just as good as the mexican you get in California. Most people choose the fish bajamar burrito, but I like to add guac to it. My friends like the cali wrap burrito. I think the pinto beans are the better than the black beans. I also like the tostada salad. It's all the chips and salsa (bar) you can eat. I get a side of pinto beans, and salsa to take home with some chips to eat for dinner the next night. It's just that good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
